BNP today expressed hope that President Abdul Hamid will take initiatives over the formation of an election-time government as well as take initiatives on reconstitution of the Election Commission after his discussion with different political parties.

The party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at the party’s central office at Nayapaltan in Dhaka.

The talks over the reconstitution of the election commission are scheduled to start at Bangabhaban on December 18.

The BNP was invited to the talks on the first day and Jatiya Party (JP) is scheduled to meet the head of state on December 20. The JP too may discuss the formation of an election-time interim government.

Liberal Democratic Party, a component of the BNP-led 20-party alliance, is likely to place a set of demands, including the formation of an election-time government comprising the leaders of political parties that represented in the parliament of 1996, 2001, and 2008 and have registrations with the EC.

It is supposed to meet the president on December 21.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday told The Daily Star that they would place party chief Khaleda Zia’s proposals before the president and hoped that this would help in the reconstitution of a powerful EC.
